Specifications and Applications of Superfine Hydrate

Hi Friends,

In present post, we will discuss about the specifications, production process and applications of superfine hydrate.

Superfine is mainly used as filler in paper, paints and plastics. The typical product specifications and production process are given in subsequent paragraphs-

Product Specifications:

Typical quality specifications of Dry coarse hydrate are tabulated below-
Al2O3: 64.0% min.
Fe2O3: 0.012% max.
SiO2: 0.012% max.
Na2O: 0.25% max.
Moisture: 0.50% max.
LOI at 1100oC: 34.5%
Median particle size (d50): 5-25 microns.

Production Process:

Superfine hydrate is produced by wet milling of Chemical grade hydrate. The raw hydrate is mixed in water fed to ceramic lined Ball mill having porcelain balls as grinding media. The ground hydrate is filtered on rotary horizontal vacuum disc filter and dried in dryer for moisture control in product.

Industrial Applications:

Major applications and advantages of super fine hydrate are outlined below-

(i)     As filler in paper for imparting brightness and better surface finish,
(ii)           Used in paints as it is less costly than TiO2,
(iii)          As smoke suppressant in plastics.

We seek your views / suggestions / remarks / comments on above.
