Quality Specifications of Burnt Lime Best Suited for Alumina Refinery

Hi Friends,

In earlier posts, we have already discussed the major applications of Burnt lime (Quick lime) in Alumina Refinery. Since lime is one of the very important ingredients as it enhances the process efficiency and product quality as well, thus due care must be taken while procurement of lime for process.

In present post, we will discuss the detailed specifications of Burnt lime considered best suited for Alumina  refinery as outlined here under:

Chemical compositions:-
Total Calcium oxide : 95% min.,
Free Calcium oxide : 90% min.,
Unburnt Carbonates : 3.0% max.,
Total SiO2 : 1% max.,
MgO content : 0.30% max.,
Fe2O3 content : 0.20% max.,
Al2O3 content : 0.30% max.,
Other Insolubles: 0.50% max.

Granulometry:-
Average lump size : 25 mm,
Range of lump size : 5 mm to 50 mm.

As the quality of burnt lime has direct impact on process efficiency figures of Alumina refinery, thus it's quality is strictly monitored and all out efforts are made to ensure the desired quality, however, in case of non-availability in the proximity of plant, decisions to compromise by a few percentage are taken after evaluating the economics. Samples from each and every lot of lime receipts are collected and analysed to compare the quality specifications mentioned in despatch document as well as ordering specifications in order to ensure desired quality.
